@lincsposter At the time it was quite customary for a ship's radio operator to shut the radio off and turn in for the night. The Californian, which could have made it to the Titanic in time, had shut off its radio for the night. Titanic's distress rockets were seen, but it was believed to be fireworks for a party and the ship's sinking appeared to be the ship sailing over the horizon. A truly unfortunate tragedy, and it's good to know the disaster has taught us so much about safety at sea.

@tdevil101 Where on Earth did you get the idea that liking Celine's song was gay? It's about the mass death of people freezing to death in the Atlantic! There is NOTHING gay about being frozen to death! Listen to the words! They are so moving!

The song is legend! It will live forever. Reality is that hundreds of passengers/crew froze to death in the freezing waters that night. Some ships speeded to her aid, others did nothing to help the Titanic ... how could they sleep after ignoring her appeals for help? Yes I know that not all ships had radio, but one ship did and could have saved almost everyone! As the anniversary approaches, let us remember what this disaster taught us - better safety on ships and the International Ice Patrol.
