On Sept. 20, 2009, the Town of Chapel Hill, N.C. dedicated a historic tribute marker at Peace and Justice Plaza in front of the Franklin Street Post Office/Courthouse. The dedication ceremony was co-sponsored by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP. Many community members gathered to witness the marker's unveiling, which honored nine local peace and justice leaders: Charlotte Adams, Hank Anderson, James Brittian, Joe Herzenberg, Mildred Ringwalt, Hubert Robinson, Joe Straley, Lucy Straley and Gloria Williams.
This video spotlights honoree Joe Herzenberg. Watch as Orange County Commissioner and former Herzenberg campaign manager Mike Nelson delivers a heartfelt tribute to Joe and his legacy.
