Back when I used to get Detroit stations, Gardner-White (and Art Van) would advertise all the time. Here is one of them for a seasonal sale. (WDIV, 1987)
In Saskatchewan, just about every cable service carried ABC, NBC and CBS Detroit. I still live there, I just moved to one of the few carriers that didn't.
retrowinnipeg do you have anymore clips from Detroit TV stations to upload from either WJBK or WDIV? If so, will you please upload more clips from when you had Detroit TV stations back then?
Definitely not. I'd just wait for the next news update or wait until the next morning for the newspaper. Those who had cable probably could get score updates from some teletext channel too.
Gardner-White and Art Van, along with Majic Windows are the cornerstones of Detroit TV.
Art Van actually now advertises in London, Ontario on billboards. They don't have Canadian stores but since the exchange rate has been near par they have begun delivery up here.
I actually wish I still had Detroit stations too. I miss seeing ads for Art Van, Gardner White, Wallside Windows, and especially that 800-CALL-SAM outfit.
Would anyone even pay 50 cents plus long distance to get scores from a 976 number back then?
