Located close to Newcastleton and forms an essential part of the Border Reivers Tour.
This is the oldest relic of the Armstrong Clan. The cross is eight feet in height and incorporates an engraving which shows the bent arm which is symbolic of the Armstrongs. The Cross was erected to commemorate an Armstrong laird who was killed at nearby Hermitage Castle. Opposite is Mangerton Tower, the 12 century seat of the Armstrongs. About half a mile behind the Cross (up a narrow track) is a burial ground wthin which are some ancient burials including Armstrongs.
