i know she was in her early teens. thats why i said, she always acted much younger than she was, or at least seemed to anyway. she acted like she was 6 instead of 12, like her character was supposed to be.

@LadyScorpio39 Lara Jill Miller was 14 when she joined the cast of Gimme A Break. She looked alot younger than she was. She could have passed for 10 if needed.

This show is now 30 years old! And still fun to watch!

it was made clear in one of the first episodes Nell was friends with the girls' mother, Margaret. When Margaret was dying Nell promised she would stay with the children. As the series progressed Nell went back to school- by the last season (after the girls were grown) she was working as an editor for a publishing company in New York.

I know people unaware may instinctively dismiss this show as a throwback to Beulah or other black maid stereotypes, but that was not the case.
