pardon, folks, i need some help) i'm working on my thesis and i need this video for my research. i can't make out the last sentence "and this is John Cameron Swayze saying good night to you..." and the rest is mystery) is he talking about Plymoth cars? or no?)
Thanks Ira Gallen for this classic kinescope. I vaguely remember this newscast as I was still a toddler at the time. I alqways remembered it in historybooks as "The Camel News Caravan" which aired every other evening aside from this broadcast.
Originally telecast on Thursday, April 21, 1955 [7:45-8pm(et)], "PLYMOUTH NEWS CARAVAN" alternated with "CAMEL NEWS CARAVAN" on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the time; John Cameron Swayze delivered this nightly newscast for NBC from 1949 through 1956, when he was replaced by the team of Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, who was a regular Washington correspondent during the Swayze newscasts {:51}.
This news report covered some protest happening in Nassau County?.....Nice. This is history right here.

I had always wondered whose pompous voice this was on old newsreels, to me the "voice of the 'fifties." Egad!

I noticed that on-screen announcer after the Plymouth award piece looked very familiar. Was that Sheppard Strudwick, who later acted on soaps?
