You miss out on one important fact: you need to remain locked on! I didn't even know of 'adrenaline dodge' until now, and I also read it in a FAQ and he also managed to miss the fact.
I wasted too long trying to 'adrenaline dodge' by simply tapping my direction control and moving left and right with the target mode unlocked.
