What a lovely advert. The boy giving his dad a signal box for a birthday present. How lovely, indeed. Of course, it does have a heart-warming feel to it, though.

I used to love this advert, it is so lovely and gentle and heartwarming. The ''mum'' looked just like my mum as well back then...I miss ads like this.....

Viz made a much better version of this. It was exactly the same up until the boy goes cycling off to the shop; he then gets hit by a car and killed. His mum is later shown using Yellow Pages to find the funeral directors - brilliant!

In fact, when Harry Lonsdale suspected Smithy was on the take and invited him round to provide an explanation, Harry didn't think that he did a very good job of it, so he grabbed the nearest thing to hand, which just so happened to be a 15 inch black carriage from a First Great Western InterCity 125 Executive, and proceeded to beat poor old Smithy to death with.
