Shootboxing rules

S-Cup is the premier tournament for the Shootboxing organisation. Shootboxing rules is pretty much the same as Muay Thai with the addition of throws and standing submissions. A throw must be at least waist height to be scored and when it is scored the referee will shout "shoot". A shoot is equivalent to a knockdown in shootboxing scoring. A successful standing submission is equivalent to a KO/ TKO. Only top level professional shootboxing rules allow elbows. Usually against western foreigners elbows are not allowed. Elbows are not allowed in the S-Cup tournament IIRC. A fighter under the Shootboxing organisation usually wear the shootboxing pants, which are long tight pants with thin shin pads. It reminds me of some of the Japanese cartoon/ comic heroes.

Jens Pulver is a former UFC lightweight champion who has also competed briefly but successfully as a professional boxer. He's known for his boxing skills mixed with wrestling.

Dai Chang Liang (Dai Jyouan in Japanese) was reported to be a 2004 Sanda champion. I have not heard of him before until this match. He seems to be the typical Sanda fighter, good kicks (esp. side kicks), bad punching and non-existant knees.

Enjoy!

  • it seems the asian guys strategy of blocking jens left hooks with his liver failed

  • 你们好 Dai Chang Liang is very good in the kicks, the "chinese Sanda fights" trains well the techniques of feet and struggle/shuijiao/roudao but unfortunately it has some problems with the fists/boxing...improved the fists/box they would be excellent fighters.

the "Chinese Sanda" trains well the back and the tendons of the legs.

  • Sanda fighters are not particularly good strikers compared to boxers and Muay Thai fighters. They usually try to take boxers or Muay Thai guys down with takedowns. The problem here is Jens Pulver is skilled in wrestling from his MMA experience and couldn't be taken down. So Sanda is forced to use their inferior striking. Result: Sanda got KTFO!

  • too weak.....

  • 555

  • f uck off sanda.

  • I think the sanda fighter has better technique in many things the difference is that he wasted his energy throwing many kicks and he didnt fight with intelligence, on the other hand Jens knew how to use all his skills in the right way, he was smarter than the sand fighter

  • This is shootboxing in Japan. In shootboxing you can also do takedowns and standing submissions. A cool sport which is getting better. Look it up!

  • You don't need to kick when you have a left that's capable of collapsing stars.

  • @2fnez Ahhh.... The ol' liver block. Doesn't always work, does it?

  • usa fighters seems a more skilled boxer...but he cant kick.

  • I am a Chinese, and i think in Sanda field, American fighters tends to firstly defend and then attack compared with chinese ones, a very smart strategy.

It seems that in this match, Jens has more strength than our warrior
