Thank you. I took the microsoft tutorial and still couldn't figure out how to do header and page number. You answered my question in the first minute of your video. Thank you so much.

This is hilarious. I teach Word, & was looking for short demos for various topics, one of which is headers & footers. Every single thing you do and recommend in this video is exactly what I do. I recommend selecting the 3-field header; I insert Page X of Y; I reduce the font; I underline the header; (I make mine bold instead of italic); I insert page # in the CURRENT position; I use plain style (unless I require roman numerals in a preface); and I insert a line ABOVE the footer.
(Good job)

Only instructions I've found that show how to add other fields AND page numbers in a header/footer. Two secrets to it: use "3 field" and "current position". Thank you!!
Thanks for the video. That explained part of it for me. I am still trying to figure out how to get the formatting for odd and even pages that are both footers different ie where the page number and text are on the far right on the odd pages, and different text and on the left for even pages. (as in a book layout)
Have been phaffing about for over 2 hours. This really is ridiculously complicated.

Go to Page Setup, click on the Layout tab, and check the Different odd and even option. Now use the techniques shown in the video for odd and even pages.
