Nuon technology was developed by VM Labs and released in 2000. The Nuon platform was designed to be integrated in standard DVD players, and could enhance playback for DVDs designed for Nuon, as well as play Nuon games. A few manufacturers released Nuon-compatible players, including Samsung and Toshiba.

Without little in the way of marketing or third party support, the Nuon quickly died with only 8 games and 4 compatible DVDs under its belt, and VM Labs filed for bankruptcy in 2001.

Nuon had a few decent games, including Tempest 3000 and Ballistic, but this is not one the general gaming populace should track down. It's not common at all, and typically gets a wee bit pricey. For collectors though, this is definitely an interesting and unique piece, and given it does have some playable titles, it may even see some use.

  • wrong. there were 12 games released. shin chan game for nuon is pal formatted, though.

    nice try!

  • @chazmanization I have never come across a Nuon release list that included more than the same 8 games, unless you are counting the 4 DVD films that also use the technology.

  • Is that "House of Leaves" on the bookshelf?

  • @DMXP100 Yes.

  • HAHA, Iron Soldier lives on! ...

  • I hear Tempest 3000 on it is actually pretty amazing; better than Tempest 2000, with some (upgraded) engrossing aesthetics that will put you into a psychedelic trance.

  • Damn that logitech comercial looks pretty sexy

  • That stick on the remote (dvd style) reminds me of the one on the neo geo pocket

  • Dude, really great video. Funny and informative! thanks :D

  • The level shown for Iron Soldier 3 looks like it has the same geography as the first level in Steel Battalion. The HUD was like a shoddy version of SB's too.

    I call shenanigans.

  • @tvandlust Nice.
