Headscarves are very common in whole world and specially in Hinduism, which is the start of all religions in the world. :)
It is to show respect to elders, teachers ... (sometimes its not compulsory)
We believe there is Supreme power in each of us and thats why we do "Namaste" when we greet each other (Its a salute not to u but the supremo who lives there inside u) Men also shows respect by wearing turban and caps in Hinduism.

Any culture where women feel they need to hide themselves with a Hijab "shield" for protection is a sad reflection on that culture.
Shielding represents the fear, and suppression of natural female human expresion.
Do men subjected them to this because they fear the power of natural female beauty and attraction?
I think its funny how muslim men indulge in vanity with their big hairy beards proudly displayed, but women are seen as being immodest if they just show the hair on their heads :)

You live in Southeast Asia? Great, then I'm sure you have first-hand exposure to one of the largest geographic areas in the world. Give me a break lol. Headscarves are nearly universal in some form across the world, including among the tribes of the Incas.

alright but still no. I live in south east asia. the aboriginals were actually a rather nudist people. the concept of headscarf or tudog was only practiced with islam
