This video shows the production part of a Hand Held Game Design module at Staffordshire University. The theme was "destroyer", and any environment could be made, i decided to go for a semi non-photo realistic medieval harbour theme to compliment a "cthulhu" destroyer style.
The scene is constructed of just under 50000 tris, and ran at 20-30 fps on an iphone device with 150 draw calls, it has since been optimised to peak at 120 and average at 40 draw calls, so the frame rate will be significantly better on the iphone device.
This map was creating using the UDK, and models were constructed using a modular design approach in 3D Studio Max, Textures were generated using a mix of zbrush (where applicable, i.e. normal maps) and Adobe Photoshop
