The horse's hindgut is critical to digesting fiber in a process called hindgut fermentation. However, the hindgut's ability to function is compromised especially when too much starch reaches the large intestine undigested. This kills off the good organisms, and can lead to serious problems like ulcers and colic. Learn more about how the hindgut works and some of the common problems associated with it.
