  • Christophe Clement either needs to consider the Breeders Cup Classic, and hope that Gio Ponti will handle conventional dirt? Or the Breeders Cup Turf, and hope Gio Ponti will stay the 12f strongly enough to give himself a chance this year. Because with Canford Cliffs and Goldikova both more than likely for this year's Breeders Cup Mile, thing's certainly wouldn't be any easier for Gio Ponti in that race in 2011. I'd like to see him on dirt in the Classic again, IMO.

  • I backed Gio Ponti in the Breeders Cup Mile. Thinking he was the most talented of all the challengers that Goldikova would face. I thought maybe the tight turns on the Churchill Downs turf course would possibly present a problem for Goldikova. Making it possible for Gio Ponti to have a shot at upsetting her. After all was said and done. Gio Ponti ran as well as he did in this race to finish 2nd in the B.C. Mile. But Goldikova made them all look ordinary. IMO.

  • @Defiantslave He's going to the mile...Just go to the Blood-horse magazine website and you'll see it

  • Sydneys Candy.

  • Gio Ponti is running in the Mile, a wise decision by his owners.

  • Gio's going in the Classic, not the Mile...

  • @yman1, Gio Ponti's connections have decided that he's going in this year's B.C Mile-Turf as well. I saw Gary Stevens and Jeff Siegel discussing it on Saturday morning on HRTV's Pursuit of the Cup. This will be the toughest Mile-Turf yet for Goldikova, IMO. I agree. Paco Boy at 7-1 will be a real value bet. I'd imagine Gio Ponti will be there about's as well. Proviso likely about 10-1. Hard to believe a mare that's won 4 straight G1's will go off that long? Rip's out. Retired.

  • Canford Cliffs aint going to America... he`s going to Japan instead later in the year as his owners refuse to pay the entry fee for the Breeders Cup on top of the cost of getting him there. Goldikova and Paco Boy will be there, and more than likely Rip Van Winkle...They`ve all had busy enough seasons and a lot will depend on the ground on the day. Paco Boy @ 7/1 Could be value.

  • @tjjlm444, If all the Euro horses that are allegedly coming show up for the B.C. Mile-Turf? Gio Ponti, even as good as he is, would find himself in very tough spot in that race. Goldikova and Paco Boy are virtual certainties to come. Rip Van Winkle will be sent as well. It remains unclear if Rip will run in the Mile-Turf or the Classic? If Canford Cliffs comes? Add another total beast. Proviso has 4 straight G1 win's, and she's still gonna be long odds for the race. It will be tough for sure.

  • @GBeret83 i agree totally with your thinking here as i was thinking the same thing. i actually think he is better off in the classic because of the money value if you place or show. plus the field for the turf mile is incredibly tough i actually think its gonna be the toughest field of all the races. i cant wait to see goldikova and canford cliff with that incredible turn of foot go at it. hopefully sidneys candy will be healthy to get in there too.
