The Blue Earth County Historical Society's vintage base ball team, the Mankato Baltics, is unique in that they bring history alive out of the field. Getting their start in June of 2007, the Baltics are now members of the Vintage Base Ball Association, VBBA. The Baltics wear vintage uniforms, use vintage equipment and play by 1860s base ball rules.

The Baltics follow rules that were adopted in 1860. Rules include no gloves, no bunting and the ball is hand stitched leather with a 9 1/2 to 10 inch circumference. Spectators are called rooters or cranks and cheer for good players from both teams. Being a gentlemans game, there is no spitting, swearing or wagering allowed.
