Produced in advance of Metro Rail's construction of a subway system in Los Angeles County, this 1982 film is designed to show audiences what a subway system in Los Angeles will mean to the community. Shot in 16mm, the film won two awards in international class film competitions: the Columbus Film Festivals 'Chris' award and the Council for International Non-Theatrical Events, Golden Eagle Award.

We once had a 1100 mile interurban rail system that served Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange counties. Yes, those 1100 miles of track could have been upgraded for a modern metro system but as always Los Angeles has to do things the hard way.

LA actually had an extensive streetcar system prior to the 60s, before they were pulled out in favor of freeways. It's sad, because those surface tracks could've been upgraded to light-rail systems reaching even deep into Riverside and Orange County. So in a sense, Metro Rail came and went, and came again :-(.

the metro rail came too late for los angeles. we should of had a rail system in the 60's. LA should learn from NY.
