I believe you, it's the Marine effect of being on the Atlantic coastline. Kind of why Anchorage is warmer than Fairbanks.

I can vouch, They talked about the ring from Tallahassee to Jacksonville and points north. Most of the day on Christmas Eve there was a mixture of Sleet and snow falling in the Pensacola area. It changed over to all snow before it ended. It never stuck to the ground though. Closest I remember seeing a white Christmas.
