Papa Bue's Viking JazzBand Careless Love with Champion Jack Dupree piano and blues singer Recorded Copenhagen Jun 12/13 1962 and issued as "Papa Bue - okänt album" (okänt I think means blues). Champion jack Dupree really adds something do the Papa Bue foundation. William Thomas Dupree, best known as Champion Jack Dupree, was an American blues pianist. His birth date is disputed, given as July 4, July 10, and July 23, in the years 1908, 1909, or 1910. He died on January 21, 1992. Champion Jack Dupree was the embodiment of the New Orleans blues and boogie woogie pianist, a true barrelhouse "professor". His father was from the Belgian Congo and his mother was part African American and Cherokee. He was orphaned at the age of 2 and sent to the New Orleans Home for Colored Waifs (also the alma mater of Louis Armstrong). Careless Love: is a traditional song of obscure origins. Blues versions are popular; the lyrics change from version to version, but usually speak of the heartbreak brought on by "careless love." Frequently, the narrator threatens to kill his or her wayward lover. The song's melody also is used in other blues songs eg "A bunch of thyme" and Moon Mullican's "Worries on my mind". W. C. Handy's song "Loveless Love" uses the familiar melody of "Careless Love" but the lyrics compare loveless love to synthetic goods and artificial food; and tells a love story, rather than the original story line of a tragic death. The death referenced in the older song was the son of a Kentucky governor. W.C. Handy copyrighted "Careless Love" in 1926.
