We're all just waves of energy and our five senses allow us to experience the universe in a subjective way. Religions idea of the universe simplifies it greatly.
Two non-biologists discussing evolution... Love it! How about next time we get two accountants to discuss brain surgery. Two construction workers to discuss rocket science? I'm open to suggestions.
I am not arguing that I think the universe did actually come from nothing (it is obviously not very compelling), but I really don't see any reason why it couldn't be the case. We're going to need far more than a silly human intuition to determine if from nothing comes nothing.
I am not ignorant of ex nihilo, I just doubt that you have any good justification beyond your intuition for why nothing cannot produce something. Especially considering that we don't know anything about the properties "nothing" actually has. Everything in the universe is something even if it is in a quantum vacuum, so we have no basis for what properties to assign to "nothing", we just assume things about those properties without any basis.
Look at the comment that I replied to. You said "don't get your science from someone that believes that matter could somehow create itself"
"accepting something as science from someone"
We could use the same argument against any person who isn't a naturalist because sciences basic premises presume Naturalism. Yet those people can still produce good science as long as they actually follow the scientific method.
@scrap222666 - Like I said, I wasn't trying to be insulting. I simply cannot grasp how anyone of a respectable adult age could make such nonsensical statements as you continue to make.

@MaximumAxiom
"I would also be curious how know that the universe couldn't come from nothing?"
Whoa! You seem to be admitting that you are ignorant of the fact that you can't get something from nothing.
If you are admitting that, then perhaps you should run for congress and help them borrow our way out of debt.

@MaximumAxiom
"So you think that everything Hawkins has done is unreliable science?"
I don't think that I ever said that.
But, one should be skeptical of accepting something as science from someone that obviously does not have a good understanding of basic science.
"Furthermore matter creating itself isn't scientific."
Agreed.Obviously, something other than the matter created the matter.
"Science only deals with the empirical realm,"
That's a philosophical statment, not a scientific one.

@scrap222666 - You couldn't possibly be much older than 18, making the nonsensical statements that keep emanating from your mind to your fingertips.
