BBC's The Choir (1995) Panis Angelicus sung by Anthony Way (Henry Ashworth) & The Final Theme

A clip from the BBC production "The Choir" which was shown on Masterpiece Theater on PBS in 1995 in the United States. This mini-series, based on Joanna Trollope's novel, explores the internal politics and scandals of a British cathedral choir school. It features the singing voice of first-time actor and boy treble soloist Anthony Way, a real-life student at the St. Paul's Cathedral Choral School in London who portrays Henry Ashworth. Also starring David Warner as Alexander Troy, Headmaster; James Fox as Hugh Cavendish, Dean and Nicholas Farrell as Leo Beckford, Choirmaster. Filmed in Gloucestershire England. Composer, Stanislas Syrewicz. This clip has Anthony Way (Henry Ashworth) singing "Panis Angelicus" along with the final theme of the series.

In 1986 myself and some of my fellow choristers went to Edinburgh on a week long RSCM summer course, and as we got closer to the Scottish border, we gave our fellow passengers a very impromptu show!! We'd been talking about our fave choral pieces that we sang, and Panis Angelicus was one of the clear winners amongst us, so we just launched into it!!

Anthony Way, of course, was a wee gem with a remarkable voice, but the real star of this series was Gloucester Cathedral - my personal favourite among the great medieval monuments of England.
