Dragon Breed - arcade demo - 1989

Dragon Breed is a horizontally scrolling shoot em up arcade game produced by Irem in 1989. It ran on M72 and M81 hardware and was well-received by critics at the time. The player's character is a human who rides a large, green, flying chinese style dragon. The dragon is invincible, capable of blocking most enemy projectiles and damaging enemies on contact. The human is armed with a forward-firing crossbow. The dragon's body is very flexible and responds to the player's movement enabling the player to use the dragon as a mobile shield or as a whip-like weapon. You can also circle the tail around a group of enemies to kill them. The tail of the yellow or blue dragon can be coiled around the player to offer almost complete invulnerability for a limited time.

I've never seen it before but It looks pretty awesome, it's bound to be really if the makers of R-TYPE were behind it.

It's got "R-Type" familiarity to it. Enemies especially.

Now that I've watched THIS video of this game, now I know how you die in it. I didn't know how that happened watching the dragon take a zillion hits in a playthru, so I wanted to see how you died. Hit the prince guy? That's unique.

sound fx are a little weak especially the wimpy primary weapon but otherwise an awesome game...

Never heard of this one before but it looks pretty cool with some nice graphics. I think I'll give it a go on Mame. Thanks for the vid!
