Press TV looks back at Iran-USA relations, 29 years after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

US president Carter's decision, on April 8th, 1980, to break diplomatic relations with Iran, was followed by Reagan's support for Saddam's aggression, Clinton's enacting of sanctions and embargos against Iran, and the Bushes hostile policies. These did not meet the expected impact / effects however, as they turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Iran, allowing Tehran to recover its full sovereignty, and to achieve autonomy and self-reliance in various fields of culture, economy, technology and science.

Additionally, it must be reminded that the CIA engineered a military coup in 1953 to overthrow Iran's democratically elected prime minister Dr Mossadegh, who had nationalized the oil industry (formerly co-owned and exploited by the UK). At that time, Dr Mossadegh was being falsely presented as a "communist" in the western media, in order to "justify" his illegal toppling. Today, it's Iran's peaceful nuclear program that is being used as a smokescreen and pretext for the US administration to oppose Islamic Iran, seeing how the latter is refusing to become another US client-state.

Noam Chomsky interview excerpt.

  • Iran is testing nuclear weapons to destroy isreal make peace with a tyrant nation that seeks to destroy other countrys why would any country make peace with an aggresive nation like iran when they cant even solve their own problems?

  • @SadCarnage1224 Iran is not even building any such weapons, let alone testing them. Israel, on the other hand, has over 200 in stock, pointed at all its neighbours... Iran will not attack any other country. It never did in the past 200 years. Even if it had such weapons, please think - of what use would a nuclear strike on Israel be, when it is only bound to kill civilians, including many Palestinians? However Iran opposes the Israeli regime, and this political regime needs to be changed.
