  • Who is the jazz artist and the name of this instrumental in this video?

  • @nellrenee305 It's Thelonious Monk in the beginning of the video and the second section of the composition is Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin.

  • Sadly, this was THE worst that I have seen or heard read of Theme for English B. The Narrator lacked the soul that was ever present in Hughes voice. It was read too proper, and if studied, Langston's poems reflect his terms of speech and slang. It was not meant to be read with proper endearment, but it was suppose to reflect his disdain for the segregation, and bigoted ways of his time.

  • You have an excellent point. I do agree that the soul and textures of Hughes voice are somewhat lacking in the Narration of my film. However, as the director, I made the decision of carrying a more droll tone since I felt that this particular Hughes poem was a direct communication towards a white oppressive race, as if proving that he too can carry himself in that "proper" fashion, while deep down inside he carries that yearning to remain true to his culture and race. Best critique I've had btw

  • Ummmmmm, yeahhhhhhh, I love it!!!

I found this a few weeks back. I shared it with my American lit students today. We read the poem and then I showed them this. They loved it too! It's nothing short of awesome in my opinion. LOVE LOVE LOVE LANGSTON!!!

    Thank You!

  • @Jaimefede3000 I apologize if I came off as a over judging prick. I was just thrown off but the form of speech that u chose to enact the poem. I applaud the well thought out reply but I fear that I came off too harsh

  • So good
