He does lead his team in hits, and he has come close to the league leaders in hits too. Last time I checked, separating the man from the puck was defensive, and not many star players do it. @Take1Them1Out I never changed the subject, you started talking about trophies.... by your "theory" why is it that players such as Jordan Staal and John Madden don't get these awards? They are strong in most aspects of the game. The award for most valuable and most outstanding ALWAYS goes to a high scoring forward, a strong goalie, or a Defense man that can put up points. Finally the notion that Ovi will win a cup is fucking ridiculous. As i said before"defense wins championships"

@33cowan95Oh my fuck, the Hart Memorial trophy is rewarded to the player who is most valuable to his team, and the Lester B. Pearson award is rewarded to the most outstanding player in the NHL by the NHL Players Association. So only offensive players are valuable and outstanding? He won them for being a well rounded player. Don't change the subject talking about the cup, this is about Ovechkin as a player. He's bound to win a cup playing like he does when he's on his game, just like all players.

@33cowan95 Try using "judge" , it makes more sense. You're telling me faceoff percentage is as important as overall points, assists, goals, etc.? It's easier to improve on your faceoff wins than improve your overall points and lead the league in that category. @33cowan95 I don't feel like looking up his broken records, but I know he was the first rookie to score over 50 goals since Teemu Selanne, and he was the first to crack 60 goals in a season since the 90's,and he was the first player to win the Art Ross, Maurice Richard, Lester B. Pearson, and Hart Memorial trophies in a single season. No FUCKING way is he considered an average overall player, even if he does lack defensive skills.
