Take off from Gatwick runway 26 abord a Britannia 767-300. Few seconds later we are above the low overcast clouds to reveal a lovely sunrise. Accelerating through 236mph and still on the runway heading. Little experiment i did with my tomtom :-)

  • How high is 0:38 ?

  • Don't do that guy!, this can cause very annoying issues when your trying to fly a jet. I once had bad trouble with ATC, because i couldn't understand a word they were saying. Me or my Captain, he just understood a little better than i.

  • People seem to have the idea that harmless radio transmitters have an effect on commercial jets. Bluetooth, gsm, have no effect on avionics, however it does create distortion through radio frequencies which hamper with ATC communications. I use my Garmin GPS receiver on flights, it is harmless becuase it is a 'receiver' and not a transmitter. Plus on some aircraft GPS is used to update IRS L R position including nav radio aids.

  • so you have threatened all passengers safety as well, by using you mobile phone not only in the cabin, but even in the flightdeck, where all the sensitive devices are located. the bluetooth device has a range of only a couple of meters, while your mobile phone was able to connect to the trasmitter antennas on the ground. don't you think the power output on your mobile is higher then the bluetooths'? do you know that the avionics bay was located right under your feet?

    good job YOU made it!

  • Well.. i left my phone on once during a flight. when i was in the flight deck, u could see the signal transmitting on the radar, as it comes up as a thunder cloud.. but in a perfect triangle, so actually this does effect some of the equipment. it may be trivial, but the pilot cant see anything within this red triangle, such as a storm build up, as this red triangle may be hididng it.. thats all i meant!

  • working with aircrafts for more than 20 years now. I have personally looked into whether mobile phone and bluetooth transmitter could actually disrupt with the reading in the flight deck. It is more likely that you probly get run over by a cow on the way to the airport than plane crashing because of a bluetooth transmitter which the nominal link range is 10 centimeters. It is being argued by aviation authority whether mobile phones has to be switched off.

  • How can a passive device be dangerous?!?! I flew from southampton to bergerac with my car gps, over southampton it flashed up '30 mph speed limit' at 230 mph!!!

  • no offence.. but its a bit dangerous using satelite devices onboard an aircraft. can relaly effect the readings in the flight deck.. good job u made it!
