"What do I care for your suffering? Pain, even agony, is no more than information before the senses, data fed to the computer of the mind. The lesson is simple: you have received the information, now act on it. Take control of the input and you shall become master of the output."
-- Chairman Sheng-ji Yang, "Essays on Mind and Matter"

Yang wraps his despotist worldview in beautiful quotes and speeches, yet that cannot hide the fact that he is a vile tyrant.

Yes it's true, although the term probably dates back further to when the Arabs interacted with the Franks who ruled most of Europe at the time. It was used interchangeably with 'Westerner', much like 'Saracen' applied to any Muslim or Arab. I wouldn't be surprised if it was spread through to the Indian sub-continent through the expansion of Islam, and then eventually diffused into Thailand through trade and whatnot.

Really? Is that true? If that is true then it is interesting. Well, it is possible as some words in Thai are from the middle east... We also call France-Farang-sed, I think the etymology that we mis pronounce France into Farang is more possible, but then history is all about reconstruction of something that is not there anymore, we can only get a rough image.

Interesting how you use the word 'Farang' for foreigner, which comes from the Arabic term for the Franks that invaded the Holy Land during the Crusades.

Though one could argue, life at its core, at its origins, was nothing more than a self replicating chemical reaction that gets better and better with each cycle, structures are added, organs, sentience, intellect, but ultimately all answer to the original DNA one way or another, symbols, meanings were simply applications to be installed into intellect to boost ability to cope with ever changing circumstances, yet we all know things can always transcend its original reason for existence...

Buddhism as a deconstruction of the concept of life itself resulting from the obsession with philosophy of the Indians... Applying the neuroscientific brain altering techniques of yogis of his day to alter the very structure of the brain to remove the senses of happiness and suffering to attain true freedom... thousands of years before neuroscience... Prince Siddatha is amazing...
