The End Of Advice

They have a nice yellow building,
about a hundred and fifty meters away.
But you must be very careful
because anything can happen to you.

And then what? He said.
Tell them to hang in there. Victory is ours.
I want to run through this one more time, he said.
Can I walk to this yellow building from there?
Yes! The man said.
No! Said another Muslim.
You must request five soldiers to escort you.
You must go by car, insisted a third fighter.
And never go alone.
Best to go alone, opined a fourth.
That way you'll be less conspicuous to the enemy.
I get it, he said wearily.
And will they ask me any questions?
Tell them to fuck their mothers!

That was when he had realized
that he could not expect
and would never have
any good advice
when he went to wars
because wars
were by definition
processes which strove
to make advice obsolete.
