PSPscene Resistance Retribution PT1 Sony PSP

I guess everyone has suffered from the lack of PSP game releases, post the Christmas break.
So we all knew this release was welcome and it was going to be something decent, the game had been well anticipated by the gaming press afterall.

Resistance Retribution is essentially a third person shooter, with a zoomed 3rd person view option, selected by the player to help shoot targets that are far away.

You play as James Grayson, who is an elite soldier who's a gritty and quite independant englishman, he likes to do things is own way!
He's a good mercenary type soldier in effect, who doesn't like taking orders from anyone and this fact is well potrayed throughout the game.

The strory unfolds with plenty of graphic cutscenes that help you understand Graysons quest against the evil Chimera.
The cutscenes are of high quality, with some good locational story telling, with Grayson's adventures shown in between all the action.
Voices are good in my opinion, other reviews slag off the voice overs but I found them occassionally funny, or rather crude and obnoxious, which I favour personally.

The in game graphics are good. The different enviroments really add to the games feel, they are well designed and are well represented.
Your character is well drawn, as are the Chimera enemy legions that await your adventures.

Sound is very good with intense music at the right moments.
SFX from weapons and enviroment effects are all first class and help make the game exciting.

Gameplay starts off easy and gets harder fairly quickly, although you wont get stuck to often, you will get past the harder parts with a few more goes.
The game has check points, so things are never going to be overly difficult.

Most of the gameplay requires you to find cover and use it wisely to attack the Chimera, simply rushing around all guns blazing, will see you reduced to a heap of dead meat on the floor.
Some character and enviromental ineraction is required along your journey, usually in the form of activating or deactivating equipment or supplying covering fire for in game friends, Although Grayson never admits to liking anyone!

There are lots of weapons to keep you happy, ranging from machine guns, plasma rifle, sniper rifle grenades ect.
each weapon has a secondary fire option which rather nice.

The controls are well set out and once your familiar with them, you will progress in the game nicely.
I would recommend turning off the in game aim assist and set the anologue to "alternate", I found these settings offer more to the games third person shooter experience.

Overall Resistance Retribution is a classy PSP title, some may scoff at its storyline but I think it's something bold and different from most PSP tactical shooters.
Despite its critics, I love Grayson and the storyline.
Excellent game.

I recommend it for guys who liked games like resident evil 4, the layout and viewpoints are similiar and show that a PSP is a credible piece of kit.

I bought this game when It first came out. 5 out of 5. Oh and When you use the duelshock you can't turn on aim assist.
