@arborough It makes me laugh when guys that think they are "in the know", say there is no reason to heat hot water. I worked at a company were I needed 140 degree water but theHOT water heater was set at 120. At 120 the water IS hot, I needed it to be 140 so yes I had to heat hot water. When you make dinner, do you stop heating water before just before it boils. No but I think you would call that water hot.

@arborough Unfortunately, I do not smoke, so no heading down to the beach!!...lol You are right of course about what to really call a water heater. "hot water heater".....that's just "joe" being "joe". Maybe he should grab a doobie & clear his head! I'll have a little discussion with him & see if I can knock some sense into him. :0

t&p dicharge need to be piped directly to within 1ft of the floor at the water heater location so any problem can be easily idntified and repaired not outside to the garden joe. notice my 1st post i reffer to them as " water heaters" and you called them "HOT water heaters? wrong again joe there is no reason to heat hot water.dont believe check any literature from rheem, state,a.o smith, sears ect. the all refer to them as "water heaters" go back to the beech and smoke a doobie

@gndrand There should be an inspection cover towards the bottom of the water heater. Open that up & see if you can find a water leak There's also a hose bib at the bottom edge of the heater. Is it leaking around there? Is the pressure relief valve leaking at all?....on top of the heater. What about the water inlet connections? You are the inspector. Get your hat on & find the leak. If it looks like it's leaking from somewhere inside the tank, it might be time to replace. How old is it? Joe :0

we have hot and cold water and good pressure, however, we have had a small puddle of water at the bottom of the water heater. How can we tell where it is leaking from and how to fix it? Sears said it is leaking from inside the heater, could not diagnose and just wants to replace it.
Maybe a little more time on the tank and a lot less on the ocean

@toddlog34 I would've spent more time on the water heater but sense the relief vavle was working fine afterall, I thought I would shoot a little ocean as well. Sorry. Joe :0

joe you scare me. not only did u not say to shut off the power 1ST before servicing witch can be fatal. u also mentiond the curved pipe that come of ( oh yea joe its a t&p not presure relief valve) BIG difference. anyway if the water get trapped on the discharge it can and will cause the t&p to seize shut. this failure can cause the" water heater" to blow thru the roof. google "water heater" explosion or watch on mythbusters
