u cnt sneak ur way into a heavy champ he won because he outboxed him theres no theres no end! chris outboxed him and his ability to move away from punches is incredible thts wat made him a champ, chris was a light heavy and weightlifted to b a heavy weight
No matter if you like Byrd or not because of his style you have to give the man props for being a natural Light Heavyweight and stepping in the ring with some of the biggest guys from Ike, Jameel, Klitchko brothers, Golata and wanting to fight anyone.
I can't believe Chris Byrd snuck in as a heayweight champ, especially under a fake "WBO/IBF" belt. That definitely was the beginning of the end for heavyweight boxing.
@0Turbox - I believe the nonsense is your application of only the inverse of the formula to dismiss my statement (i.e. you imply "great chin = great champion". As most sensible people and boxing enthusiasts realize, a great chin is only part of the equation of being a great champion. But it is ALWAYS a critical component. I dare you to identify one great boxing champion that couldn't take a good punch. Just one.
Holyfield injured his should early in the 2nd. You can see he starts using a phily shell instead of touching Byrd's lead like you should against a southpaw. Also stops throwing the left.
This is another one of those fight classics between two great fighters in the heavyweight division for the IBF international boxing federation world championship.
I love that Foreman says Byrd has to "show he can get in there and get a knockdown!" some time. Foreman's advice is always just what Foreman would do. He should also advised Byrd to take his next fight in Africa and get knocked out in the middle rounds.
@tylersfs Well Patterson seemed to get knocked down a lot.
