In this video I compare the sound of a short studio production using and not using the Tube MP as a preamp on each instrument. The comparison is with the Motu 828 preamp. The Motu 828 preamp is better than the preamp in some other consumer grade I/O devices such as a Tascam US-122 for example; so others may get more improvement from using a Tube MP than I did. If I were to conduct this test over again I would lower the Tube MP input level in version 2 somewhat in order to achieve a more "airy" sound. Version 4 sounds somewhat unnatural to me because the source was very digital sounding to begin with.

  • The difference is very noticable but you have to have pretty darn good speakers to hear the difference over the internet.

  • Return it. It should not hum. Not sure if its what you have but I also own an ART Tube Pac. It does not hum. If your lucky it could possibly be just a bad tube. There are two tubes inside the Tube Pac.

  • this preamp is for vocals, your demonstration will not reflect it's real use.

  • your tube seems to need replacing, it should not have that electronic hum / jitter

    you could try a

genalex golden lion part ecc83 / b759 it's a direct drop in replacement for your tube and is manufactured to higher quality standards

it will certainly remove that noise

  • @ToneTaster What is your favorite tube TYPE for it (12ax7, 12au7 ect.)? Also, what is your favorite brand tube for it?

  • I don't hear much of a difference, but I'm more than sure that if you swap the cheap chinese firecracker tube with a real Telefunken or a Mullard ECC83, you'll be in for a pleasant surprise.

  • @Egon420 u may just have got a damaged compressor/preamp...

  • @Egon420 wow this is a 30$ piece of equipment you got ripped off

  • Just bought an ART tube compressor / preamp. Makes a horrible humming noise and destroys my vocals. I record in Sony Acid pro. Any suggestions? I paid $150 for this thing.
