Durga Suktam Hymn with English subtitles - Durga - Goddess of Energy and the Mother

English Translation by Ramesh Krishnakumar, to the invocative rendering by Vedic priests.

The hymns are found in the Mahanarayana Upanishads.

The worship of Durga is as old as the Vedic period. The Vagambhriniya Sukta of the Rigveda (I.25.6) refers to the Mahashakti-tattva as the sum and substance of all existence. She is regarded as energy in the sun, fragrance in flowers, beauty in nature, colour in rainbow, intelligence in the mind, potency in medicines, the intuitive power in sages, bhakti in devotees, sadhana in yogis and gayatri in the Vedas. She is prakriti, making possible the creation of the world along with a counterpart, the Purusha.

Countless forms of creation stem from her holy feet. She has all the three powers at her command - iccha shakti, kriya shakti and jnana shakti

The Durga Suktam is considered an important prayer to Goddess Durga for removing pain and difficulties and to understand the nature of the mother goddess and her powers.

The nine forms of Durga are mentioned, Navadurgas are worshipped during the Navaratri festivals In Bengal, the Navratris are celebrated with much gusto. The images of Durga are prepared, decorated, worshipped and finally immersed in the rivers on Dasehra day, which marks the culmination of Navratris.

very nice. just some touch needed in the transalation. vaishnavi is basically te sister of visnu not his shakti. his shakti is lakshmi. vaishnavi also means the one who who pervades everything. here it means the mayasahita brahman - the para shakti. otherwise in the diety context it means parvati devi, the consort/ shakti of lord Rudra.
