And exiled Uighur activist Rebiya Kadeer continues her trip in Japan today. She's there drumming up support to launch an investigation into riots in China's Xinjiang Province earlier this month, between ethnic Uighurs and Han Chinese.
Uighur activist Rebiya Kadeer is calling for an international investigation into the deadly riots in Chinas northwestern Xinjiang Province, saying that nearly 10,000 Uighurs went missing in one night.
[Rebiya Kadeer, Exiled Uighur Activist]: (Uighur, female)
"The Chinese government claims 197 people died and 1,000 were injured and most of them were Han Chinese. But we do not believe such numbers. Our sources tell us that nearly 10,000 [Uighur] people were at the protest, and almost all of them disappeared from Urumqi in one night. If they are dead, where are their bodies? If they are detained, where are they?"
Kadeer said on Wednesday the 29th that she was disappointed about the U.S. reaction towards violence in the Xinjiang region. While visiting Japan on a private trip, Kadeer held a news conference in Tokyo, while a group of protesters held banners and flags, calling on the Chinese Communist Party to loosen its grip in the region.
In Xinjiang's worst ethnic violence in decades, Uighurs attacked Han Chinese in the regional capital of Urumqi earlier this month after police tried to break up a protest against fatal attacks on Uighur workers at a factory in south China.
Han Chinese in Urumqi launched revenge attacks later in the week.
Kadeer rejects Chinese Communist Party accusations that she instigated the riots. CCP officials also claim the Dalai Lama was behind a series of riots in Tibet months ahead of the Olympics.
Now, Kadeer calling on the international community to send an independent investigative team to the site of the riots to uncover details of what really took place.
[Rebiya Kadeer, Exiled Uighur Activist]: (Uighur, female)
"The international community hasn't expressed a clear reaction towards the deadly riots. We've only seen Turkey condemn China while the rest of the world remained silent. I came to Japan to ask the people and the government of Japan to help investigate the incidents."
Kadeer was born in Xinjiang Province, and has been one of the most outspoken voices for Uighur rights.

HumanRightsVideosT ,
Absolutely, the Chinese State punishes its main ethnic group i.e. Han equally unmercifully when it comes to maintaining stability. No ethnic bias. I would rather live in a stable, than an anarchic, State. At least you know where you are. In London & New York the innocent can be knived coming back or going to work!
