Irrelevant blabber?

This movie had one of the greatest screenplays I've ever seen. I don't think anything during the 3+ hours was irrelevant.

There was so much going on in terms of the message the writer/director wanted to convey...just because he didn't come out and blatently say it every time a character spoke doesn't mean it's irrelevant.

Hmm yeah I tend to agree. I think there's almost nothing you could take out and have the movie still be as powerful. Maybe the beginning scenes with the narrator, but even that has a sort of tie to the rest of the film and gives us this narrative bridge that sets up the world we're going to enter.
