The effect is called 'looming' / fata morgana. Certain air conditions cause light to bend so much you can actually see behind objects, like mountains, when there is no direct line of sight. Or they will disappear.

@DormRoomDivas if you read what it says on screen and in the description, you would know. The large mountains in the very back (the ones that look like shadows) are actually a mirage.
