  • is Living in Vancouver really that great? i'm thinking of studying film there for postgrad

  • We might be a bit biased, but we think it is a pretty great place to live! Many also agree with us - in 2009, Vancouver was named the world's #1 most livable city by The Economist!

  • Kevin Smith went to VFS. For 2 months. Then he quit, got his money back, and used it to pay for Clerks.

  • It makes for a good story. The other side is that he met producer Scott Mosier and cinematographer David Klein and VFS, longtime collaborators (and successes in their own right) he wouldn't have known otherwise. They both finished their studies and graduated. It worked out for everybody in the end!

  • @VancouverFilmSchool isnt butt-freezing in vancouver?

  • So what if he does? It doesn't matter as long as it looks good in the end.

  • Yeah that would piss me off too, this movie is amazing because it does almost everything right, doesn't matter if people think its a "cheap" way to do it, it was done that way because that's the way that makes it look the best.

  • Oh, I agree.

But I was just irratated that people were trying to make it sound like there was nothing really complex about the CGI and animation in this film.

  • Whatever gets the job done and doesn't take away from the movie. If it looks good and adds to the movie its not cheating, its clever.

  • That's what I'm saying.

Some people on IMDb are saying that Blomkamp 'cheats' with his CGI effects by using harsh lighting to help hide the edges, and using RED cameras, which makes it much easier to intergrate CGI.

I think they're just sour, though.
