AUDIENCE MEMBER: "Is it strategically imperative for the United States to remain on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq in order to create a positive influence over Pakistan, Iran and Syria?"

McCAIN: "Yes, I think so. [...] There is some progress in Pakistan [...]. Pakistan is critical, my friends. Pakistan is a nuclear arms state. Pakistan is a safe haven for some of the Taliban that are operating out there and in Afghanistan [...]. We cannot afford for Pakistan to become a radical Islamic state."
