You know, the guy is Matsushima Keiji, one of the best trumpeters in Japan. I often go to live houses to listen to his music and enjoy his sound very much.

I like hikari's playing but in this video, I much prefer the guy( whoever he is). A lot of soul and direction in his playing. Hikari is good in some of her other vids.

What's going on in Asia? These young ladies (and some men) can really play bebop! - the changes, the phrasing, the sound, the timing - The maturity of their sound seems to be years beyond American high school and college students and equal to some gritty pros. I guess they must be treating jazz as a legitimate and serious art form because there’s no way you can play the way they are without listening intently to Trane, Miles, Shorter, Stitt, Bird et.al.
