Recall Walker movement files one million signatures to remove Wisconsin governor
http://www.examiner.com/grassroots-politics-in-chicago/recall-walker-movement-files-one-million-signatures-to-remove-wisonsin-governor

In what will be remembered as one of the greatest grassroots movements in American history, over one million signatures of registered voters were gathered from every part of Wisconsin. The recall effort was led by Wisconsin United, a grassroots coalition of more than 200,000 Wisconsinites & organizations who have united to recall Governor Scott Walker.

Wisconsin Drive Far Exceeds Signature Requirement for Scott Walker's Recall

How monumental will the message be?

If the petitioners submit 640,000 signatures, that will be more than the total number of Wisconsinites who participated in any gubernatorial election from the year when Wisconsin achieved statehood in 1848 until women were allowed to vote in 1920.

If the total is closer to 740,000, that will be more than voted for the winning candidate in any election for governor of Wisconsin from 1848 until 1952.

If the total is closer to 840,000, that will be more than voted for Wisconsin's most revered and popular governors in the elections that elevated each of them to the state's top job: Robert M. La Follette (1900), Phil La Follette (1930), Gaylord Nelson (1958), Patrick Lucey (1970), Lee Sherman Dreyfus (1978), Tommy Thompson (1986) or Jim Doyle (2006).

If the total is closer to 940,000, it will be more than the combined number of voters who participated in the 2010 Republican and Democratic primaries for governor of Wisconsin.

If the total submitted Tuesday in Wisconsin is closer to 1,040,000, that would exceed the required number of signatures by 500,000. It would also exceed the number of votes cast for Walker's Democratic opponent(Tom Barrett) in the hotly-contested 2010 election, and that will rival the total Walker secured in winning the 2010 race.

Best bet? The total number will be on the higher end of the scale.

  • WALKER: This is what happens when Democrats and Independents stay home on Election Day. A 2.59 GPA college drop out and corporate lackey Governor gets elected!

  • @barbtube01

Exactly, and this will happen again if people sit back and think they've already won -- and then, there is the reality that the GOP will just wait again, until more people are sleeping!

  • @optionsupdate Nope. As a Wisconsinite I can tell you that it is the people behind this recall. Both of my folks voted for Walker originally and are disgusted with him and worked on the recall. Many of us are independents...I voted for Republicans in the past but the party is so utterly corrupt I haven't been able to do so for a while now. Dems aren't too much better to be honest but at least they haven't gone completely off the deep end. ;)

  • @recallscotwalker So true every voter in Wisconsin needs to get involved! Walker is keeping them distracted and focused on those middle class (like yourselve) that are making $40K while the Top 10% are laughing all the way to their Bank... today he is taking their health care and pensions, tomorrow it will be yours... has he volunteered to give up anything ?... has he backed down from more tax cuts for the Super Rich... voters need to open their eyes!

  • @optionsupdate No Obama isn't behind the Walker Recall. David and Charles Koch are definitely behind Walker. They were his largest campaign contributor in his election for governor. I guess that makes Scott Walker a wholly owned subsidiary of KOCH Industries!

  • @optionsupdate Oh, was that Detroit's downfall? I'm not an expert on the city but I'd wager it is far more complex an issue then that. ;)
