Rumours have been going around that Zac Efron may be on list to play Light Yagmai.
Will the Death note fans have a problem with this?

In their latest article, Shock Till You Drop revealed that an American version of manga adaptation "Death Note" is being developed by Vertigo Entertainment. The studio that are often remaking Asian movies into American films like "The Departed" have been hiring screenwriter Vlas and Charles Parlapanides to pen the script.

Though no other detail has been shared further, "Death Note" is originally a manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. It has spawned into anime series as well as Japanese live-action films. The story of the manga series centers on a high school student who despises crime and corruption happening in the world. When one day he discovers a supernatural notebook through which he could kill a person simply by writing down the person's name, he uses it to eliminate criminals.

dont get what people are making such a big deal about. I mean really, you dont want it dont watch it. Death Note is my favorite anime/manga but I would still give Efron a chance at this. i mean, gotta be honest, if Light was real, he would look exactly like Zac (except the eyes), and if it wasn't because of HSM people wouldn't be bitching about how he would screw up DN. also were more than halfway into 2011 and not even a trailer. American Death Note is NOT happening anytime soon people! relax!

I hate the thought of a Disney star of all things playing a role in one of my obsessions. But, after Zac Efron's performance in 17 Again, I feel he grew out of Disney could actually do a semi-decent job for the role of Light. As for any other disney stars? F*ck no.

Look. Zac Efron only started his movie career with High School Musical. There's no reason to linger on that when he's had so many other roles. So all of you people saying you don't want him just because he sings and dances can shut up. And remember, he's the right age for the role and certainly looks the part. The people who don't like that he may just play the role ought to keep their traps shut and actually see the movie before they judge it.

You need someone young to play Light, he's in Highschool I think Zac actually at least looks right for the role, I think we should give him a chance. Leonardo Decaprio started off as a teen hearthrob and developed into a great serious actor. Zac played light hearted roles that appeal mostly to girls so people are biased against him for that reason. I just hope the plot and the writing are good enough.Most movie adaptations suffer from taking away important parts, lingering on pointless crap.

Seriously, I kind of like Tatsuya Fujiwara, but not as Raito! He didn't fit at all and it bothered me more or less the whole time. Kenichi as L was better. Ryuk was awesome even though we could wish he looked more real, but it's not that important.
