  • usafirr, Right! Right!Right! Those are the Diamonds, and this is the original. I'm 60, and I was there too (barely!), but I remember Little Darlin' and the Diamonds, right down to the freakin' head scarf schtick!

  • @Sheboggie1 You're both correct. Looking back at the music charts from the early 50s through to the mid-60s, there were two versions of many top 40 singles; one by a black artist, the other by a white one. For example, most of Pat Boone's and Ricky Nelson's hits were Fats Domino covers. "Little Darlin" was written by Maurice Williams (later with the Zodiacs who hit big with "Stay"). Looking into the r&b charts, it reached #11; pop charts #47. Racism was alive in the 50s.

  • Where the hell is theeee original that we all LOVED ??????? I am guessing

there is no video from those days ...1957 .... but surely there is a better version

than this ....waaaaa waaaaaa waaaaa waaaaa

  • FatCDTrans : There were no official music videos back then. Most folks couldn't afford TV. All musical history was live and recorded in kinescope which unfortunate has a very short shelf life. Ever notice how crisp and clean I Love Lucy reruns are? Desi shot it all in 35mm. In answer to your tearful comment, there might be a better visual version and maybe even one that was lip synced. A studio made video? Not a chance in hell.

  • @CapCapello It doesn't matter how hard you try there is always the whingers that just have to make a negative comment. I am just grateful that people like you put these videos up so the rest of us can enjoy them. Thank you very much.

  • @pungooer That's why my finger remains diligent on the "delete comment" button. And you're welcome.

  • The Diamonds are from my home town Toronto Canada. This song was a huge hit when I was a really little kid and my dad had the 78 record which he used to play and sing along to me. This is the song i remember most when thinking about my dad and being al ittle girl and what brings back very happy never ending memories.

  • thanks for the this excellent post. the song is a masterpiece, and the performance amazing!

  • I cannot believe what a great voice and range Dave Somerville has. And STILL has!

  • @fairlyfastfreddie All four in this video are the originals. The guy with the handkerchief and the bass voice guy have both passed away RIP

  • Love eternally.....

  • On the far left is the father of Tom Hanks! No lie!

  • Correct me if I am wrong but it seems that the song gets faster and faster towards the end. Maybe they were running out of air time.

  • @FatCDTrans Actually, I thought the same thing until I watched some early footage and sure enough, the lead singer is in fact, Dave Somerville, the original lead singer. I still have problems with the second guy who wears the handkerchief on his head. But he must be one of the originals too. You have to remember that this recorded some 54 years ago! People change. Of course, I haven't - just everyone else!

  • darn,,not one of these guys are holding their junk and spitting out the "F"bomb

  • i love this <3!!
