Hippie Bag is a true story about the best purse my sister ever owned. In fact, she still has it to this day. My sister and I went on many Phish tours together. This particular stretch was extremely hot. As such, we spent a lot of time sitting in the shade of the tent and writing songs. After my sister bought the Hippie Bag she was very excited... it was easy to make fun of her. The combination of super hot weather and unbridled enthusiasm led to ... Hippie Bag. While this song was written in the summer of 1998, it was not recorded until 2000. Hippie Bag was the third song I ever recorded. It was recorded also in the rented space at the University of Amsterdam, immediately following the All Right Man.

I once bought a purse made out of patchwork... except mine had a flap. It was dark denim with pink and white patchwork all over the front side.

I am a huge Phish Phan and followed them in my younger days....from about 96 onward..... was at the last Vermont Show.. all the Loring Air Force Base shows... near my native New Brunswick just bordering Maine and in Canada.

Anyway, had bad Karma with that Hippie Bag. But Oh how I miss those days.
