My father too, was part of the heroic 15th AF, 464th Bombardment Group, 779th wing (tail gunner). He flew in an unprecedented 65 missions in the European theater. He passed away February 4, 2012. Love you dad; you will be missed.
My dad was in the 15th af and the 456th bomber group and 745th wing his captian was cap hemby i think you spell it that way he was right waist gunner and radio man ...............
My dad passed away on Jan 18, 2011. I remember showing him this video that I can watch a few thousand times. It brought back a lot of emotional memories. Thank you once again, and I hope this remains on youtube for an eternity.
Fantastic video. My dad was a top torrent gunner in the European Theater--He flew thirty missions and his last was June 5, Normandy. Thanks for letting me see this and how it pays such a tribute to that marvelous air craft
Dad was a nose gunner in the 10th AF/ 7th BG/ 493rd Bomb Squadron flying in the CBI. He flew 47 missions. He passed away on Jan 19, 1996. A truly wonderful video that he would have enjoyed and that brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for posting it.
Great pieces of film put together here---My Dad was nose gunner on "Pistol Packin' Mama" with 15th AF's 464th BG/776th BS out of Pantanella, Italy, 1944-45: he flew 58 missions, got DFC, and did anti-submarine missions too. Sad at the end of this film to see all the old B-24s carted away for scrap---I wish that instead they had given each one to an American town as a "never forget these heroes" kind of monument. Salute to all the veterans and friends who honor these people!
My pleasure bro! You and your father both "rock!" Keep-up the good work! That P-47 was an awesome fighter for it's time...the German ME262 was a big fuel guzzler and thank God there wasn't enough fuel supply to sustain it. I agree. Even if it did, courageous fighter-pilots like your father would have continued to "take to the skies!" A big salute headed your way bro! Continued success...
Roger that 18sos... My father flew 79 missions in a P-47 Thunderbolt, in France, Italy, North Africa, and finally on to D-Day, and on into Germany. He told me of one instance where they found about 2 dozen ME 262's on the ground in central France, apparently because Hitler didn't have enough fuel left to move them out of harm's way. The *flight* of 8 P-47's pretty much destroyed them all, and my Dad said he figured he got about 6 or 8 of them. He then worked in the model shop at Boeing.......
