This is a video of the climb of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The actual climb has been sped up 300%, so that's why it's kind of jumpy. I hope you enjoy this video of "America's Lighthouse."

  • I think I may very well have set a record with the Lightouse-- we visited it the first week it was open for climbing after the move. I am scared of heights but still wanted to climb! So I did--very slowly!! Enjoyed the view, but on the way down I got so dizzy from looking down that I had to sit on EVERY step and go down on my bottom... wasn't my most proud moment, but obviously I survived the descent, lol

    Can't wait to go back!

  • I'm the same way, but handle it in a completely opposite way...I had to fly down the stairs in order to feel comfortable. Every time I would have to slow down for older people or little kids I would start getting nervous. I hate heights! Thanks for watching!

  • My family and I climbed it the same day!! Didn't see this guy however. Great video!! We had a video camera but with two children couldn't film going up. We just got home and loved seeing this. Once again, AWESOME!!!

  • I'm trying to figure out how you know it was the same day???

  • I was one of the many rangers that worked at the lighthouse. You never suppose to g up that fast must of been a record. By the way you only climbed 257 steps and its 210 feet tall since the move in 1999.
