This is for Edexcel's 8, Religion and Society - topic Rights and Responsibilities,

It talks about the pro's and con's of situation ethics in moral decision making, and shows how it's strong sticking point,

IT DOESN'T MENTION:
- the 4 working principles (pragmatism, relativism, personalism and positivism)

this is because that's in the AS course, as oppose to GCSE - which this video is intended for.

Finally - I do realise that I put "They thing it's wrong" instead of think... sorry!

  • You missed out a lot of detail.

You didn't even mention Joseph Fletcher (the 1960's Anglican priest from America who came up with the whole idea of Situation Ethics)

You didn't mention Jesus' teachings of Agape Love and how he based the whole theory upon these teachings ("God is Love- Genesis 1 John, 4:8")

You didn't mention the Agapeistic Calculus, which is the way in which Fletcher decided we should choose between one loving thing and another.

You described what a consequentialist is.

  • And that would be because it's a GCSE RE resource, they don't have to know a lot about it

  • @1992Roscoe - Clare was in Y10 when she made this. I teach RE (not at Clare's school) and I have used this in my lesson to introduce Situation Ethics, I think she has done a great job. If you are going to whine about what is missed out, perhaps you need to have a go at making your own!
