The IPM512 dashboard mount for the iPhone 4 features a mini friction dashboard mount that's bundled with a high quality windshield suction pedestal. Some states such as Minnesota or California either restrict or limit the use of windshield suction mounts in the car. As such, the friction dashboard mount has become the top selling alternative mount, particularly when using GPS on your phone. IPM512 can be used as a dashboard mount or a windshield mount. It's 2 mount options for the iPhone 4 in one bundle.

  • On Amazon.com the pictures for both the SM512 & IPM512 look exactly the same. I have an iPod touch 4g in a otterbox commuter case. So it would be thinner than an iphone 4 in a otterbox defender case. What's the difference between the SM512 & IPM512, and which one do I need?

SM512 and IPM512 are exactly the same bundle. Arkon markets them differently as the "SM" in the SM512 model number represents Smartphones... and that bundle is marketed more as a "universal" smartphone mount. For the IPM512, the "IPM" references "iPhone Mount" and is marketed specifically at ALL iPhone users. The Slim-Grip holder used in these bundles (regardless of whether it's a SMxxx or IPMxxx is exactly the same. This holder is one of the most universal in the industry.

It will, though it's not recommended as it would be a tight fit. Arkon's Mega Grip mount bundle (model SM412) would probably be more appropriate. However, just this week, Arkon will be including a new set of longer support legs with its SM512 mount bundle. The SM512 is identical to the IPM512, with the exception that the SM512 now includes the longer support legs. If you already have an IPM512, you can call 1-626-254-9005 ext 207 (ask for Marc Richards) for a free set of long legs
