  • Fascinating video. The title is a giveaway to where this was filmed - Robertsbridge, East Sussex. Last time I looked the station was still open (Tonbridge-Hastings route). What could be more intriguing is whether the line to Tenterden was still open among all the "extra" track still in situ at the time of filming - *when* was this filmed?

  • I thought that this had been taken in the era from 1953 to 1961 (after the line was closed from Tenterden Town to Headcorn Junction and to passenger) but a little research reveals that 32650 was never a K&ESR loco in BR days. In fact she arrived at the railway in 1964, having been purchased in working order from BR (having worked the Hayling Island branch for many years) by Sutton County Council as a proposed exhibit - plans changed and she was thus diverted to the K&ESR.

  • One more information nugget. It seems that to expedite delivery, 32670 was run light under its own steam from Eastleigh to Robertsbridge in September 1964. This film would appear to be that actual event! Let's hope that the railway reach their goal of connecting with the main line at Robertsbridge again.

  • Not a K&ESR ambition at the moment.

  • See the Rother Valley Railway (RVR) website for the latest on the work to link Robertsbridge to Bodiam once more. RVR will join up with K&ESR.

  • 32650 is now being restored at the Spa Valley Railway, Tunbridge Wells.

  • Thanks for info. I remember reading in Railway World back in the 80s a report that Chris Green of Network SouthEast had told representatives of the K&ESR that it would benefit both railways if they could get back to Robertsbridge and he was keen to support an extension plan, which in addition featured no especially difficult obstructions or engineering challenges.

Then everything went a bit quiet... but I would agree with Mr Green and I too hope K&ESR can get their main line connection back.

  • Note the Ford Anglia van - my Dad had the 5hwt version. Where was this filmed?
