The 1972 and 1973 had larger carbs than even the 1000cc bikes, they made more HP than any year of the Z bikes. I had a 1972 back in the day with Yoshimura pipes and tons of other mods. It was terrifying to ride.......i saw well over 150 on two lane back roads in the middle of the night back in 1974.I was young and stupid. 0-60 in well under 3 seconds, had to run road race tires on the street.

get the hacksaw out.

@musiclovr2 you are right but as well your 79 kz was severly less powerful than the early models...
-
holy tits thats a badass bike. my neighbor has one chained to his front pourch. been sitting sense 1995.
-
my 79 kz1000st only did 120-125mph, these tests must have hasd a different "factory" sprocket set to get to 160

my dad owned a 1979 KM100 that was yellow when he was 15. The motor burned up and some old guy sold him a 1973 Z1900 with blue flake paint, and it was raked out... he said he kept in in his livingroom one winter. He had a friend that begged him and begged him to ride it. When my dad finally broke down and let him ride it, He to 10 minutes to go around the block and it came back being pushed up the street with a locked back wheel and a bent frame...
Yes, I agree modern bikes would be superior in every type of test, - except for 1 STYLE. In which case the KWAKA 9 wins hands down. They were a beautiful bike with plenty of power. I sure do miss mine!
