What can we gain from meditation? In this short presentation, Acarya Vedaprajinananda Avadhuta ("Dada Veda") summarizes the benefits and gives succinct examples for the benefit of those new to meditation as well as experienced in this mental exercise. Dada is an accomplished meditation-yoga teacher and has given lectures and workshops throughout the world. Dada Veda is also a singer-songwriter, and a social worker as well.

This presentation was recorded in the home of John Elliott, near Atlanta, Georgia, USA, in October 2008. It was edited by Millennium Communications, Inc. ( www.mcicom.com), under the direction of Mr. Elliott.

His name 'Dada Veda' is a shortened form of his full monastic name Acarya Vedaprajinananda Avadhuta. 'Dada' means respected elder brother.

Dada was born in NYC, and shortly after completing his college education he met an Indian monk who taught him meditation. In the years 1971-1976 he worked as a volunteer for the Ananda Marga Society, teaching yoga as well as editing the society's nationwide journal. During his time as a yoga volunteer, Dada immersed himself in the devotional songs ('bhajans') and mantra chanting ('kirtan') that play an important role in his meditation-yoga practice. Dada often led chanting sessions, playing his guitar and singing.

In 1977 Dada became a full-time monk and his first assignment was in France, where he lectured and taught extensively for the next five years. In subsequent years he taught meditation in the Far East (Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan), and then was assigned to Europe again, teaching meditation and yoga throughout Western and Eastern Europe.

For the past nine years Dada has been based in Albania where he started and still manages a kindergarten, The Albanian Sunrise School ( www.albaniansunrise.com), serving a needy community not far from Tirana, the nation's capital.

In addition to his work as a meditation and yoga teacher, Dada is also a singer-songwriter and uses his music to convey a message of spirituality, ecology, vegetarianism and social harmony.

  • I was forced to meditate before I could eat, why did they do that to me? I was always so hungry. You need to eat first to avoid hunger...

  • It is well known that it is easier to meditate on an empty stomach. However, it is true that if you are very very hungry then you would not be able to enjoy meditation. (Sometimes I take a small fruit or something if I am hungry at the time when I should be starting meditation. The small snack does not disturb meditation or my appetite for the real meal that comes after I finish meditation).

  • thank you,dada, very well explained!Nirmegha

  • what are the lessons?

  • @DavesterVideos: Discover yourself and understand that your universe is always different from everybody else and is willing to bend to meet you half way in your pursuit of your goals. Do not hesitate to find out the inner truth that only you know.

I shall take up Ananda Marga because I feel it is right to my benefit and the growth of my soul. :)

  • @DavesterVideos: I currently train in Russian Systema - A russian martial concept art and we aim for the same goals of this meditative art. I am also planning to tka eit up as I believe my psyche and spiritual self need more attuning to my physical self to bring me to a full circle of understanding.

  • @DavesterVideos : Try not to manifest yourself as someone in need of help but as someone who needs to understand why he needs help... Stress is merely tension. Eliminate tension from your life by simply understanding that to breathe is the key of controlling the tension in our being...Mind, Body and Soul.

  • focus us on the real source of our bean
